SENIOR NIGHT FRIDAY, WEST GEAUGA SATURDAY
February 10th- The Aurora Greenmen have had a busy month featuring several close games ending in losses and games where the Greenmen were able to come out on the winning end. Aurora was able to win three of four games after their loss to Crestwood. Aurora defeated Orange 68-50, Perry 42-41, and West Geauga 47-40. All three of these games were exciting conference victories that led Aurora to a 4-4 conference record. Aurora would then lose to Kenston by a score of 49-46 as a late free throw was unable to be converted to force an OT. Aurora traveled to Chardon this past Saturday and lost a hard fought game in double OT, by a score of 76-71. The battle against Chardon saw several crucial plays. Late in the 4th quarter, sophomore Kyle Fayne would hit a baseline jumper to give the Greenmen a one point lead. After a back and forth effort, senior Paul Kollat was able to split a pair of free throws to tie the game up and send the contest to OT. In the first overtime with Aurora down 3, Joe Dinardo found Paul Kollat for a three point basket with just 2 seconds left in OT to force another overtime. The 2nd overtime saw Chardon outscore Aurora 8-3 and the Greenmen would fall. The basketball team will be back in action this week as it is Senior Night for our six seniors who will play their final two games in Aurora's gym this weekend. Please come out and support the boys for all the hard work they have put in over their four years.
AHS FACES KENSTON, CRESTWOOD NEXT
January 9th- The Aurora Greenmen (3-7) will compete in two contests this weekend as they host Kenston on Friday and travel to Crestwood on Saturday. The Greenmen have split their last two games winning against Padua High School 72-59, but dropping a conference game against Painsville Harvey 65-47. Aurora saw a fabulous team effort be put together during their victory against Padua. Senior Joe Roberto would lead the way with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Roberto was not the only member to reach double figures as teammates Michael Durkin (11 points) and Anthony Quaranto (11 points, 6 rebounds) would contribute. Joe Dinardo would add 10 points and 3 assists, while Parker Blunt and Pavel Galchenko would chip in nine of their own. The Greenmen would have a great night at the free-throw as they made 24-28 opportunities. The following game against Painesville Harvey would not end in as positive a note as the Greenmen would see their four point half time hole increase to 18 by the night's end with a 65-47 finish. The JV basketball team would move to 8-2 this season in their 51-44 victory over Painesville Harvey. The JV Basketball team has seen multiple players contribute to their hot start with balance scoring and solid defense leading the way.
ALL THREE TEAMS MOVE TO 1-1 AFTER CONFERENCE TEST
December 11th, 2013- Both the Boys Varsity and Freshmen basketball teams evened their records to 1-1 on Saturday night as they each secured a conference victory on the road against Perry. The freshmen squad was able to get out to an early lead and never look back, as they would defeat Perry by more than 20 points. The Varsity team found themselves in a tough conference battle. The Greenmen were tied at 22-22 at the half with several players in foul trouble early on. After the third quarter, Aurora would trail 34-26, but would use a 28 point fourth quarter to win the game going away 54-42. Junior Joe Dinardo would lead the way with 19 points, but he didn't do it on his own. Key steals by senior Joe Roberto and sophomore Parker Blunt would ignite a late rally to secure the victory. The Greenmen would get several contributions from many of their team in order to get the first victory of the 2013-14 campaign.
BOYS PROGRAM OPENS UP WITH NORDONIA
TO START BUSY TWO WEEKS
December 3rd, 2013- After participating in a very worthwhile cause at Solon Rec Center, the beginning of the 2013-14 season takes place tonight as the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams will play host to the Nordonia Knights. Today's tripleheader, which starts at 4:30, will be the first of five games this week. Later in the week, Aurora will travel to Perry to begin conference play and the following week Aurora will play host to Western Reserve Academy (12/10), Berkshire High School (12/12), and Chagrin Falls (12/14). This year's team will have plenty of returning players back. Seniors, Paul Kollat, Drew Daff, and Andrew Rinicella will look to provide leadership in the backcourt as Anthony Quaranto and Joe Roberto look to improve the frontcourt position in their second year. Juniors, Joe Dinardo and Pavel Galchenko come back for their second years as members of the Varsity team to provide valuable experience. Newcomers this year will include Senior Scott Adsit. Also, playing in their first varsity basketball game will be members of a 12-10 JV team last season. These players include Juniors Nick Ely, Michael Durkin, and Jimmy Smith. There will be two sophomores who look to get some Varsity time this year in Kyle Fayne and Parker Blunt.t
SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION OPEN
May 9- Summer camp Registration is open to all interested basketball playersfrom grades entering 4th through entering the 9th grade next year. The basketball camp will consist of several different skills to be developed over the course of the four days of camp. The camp will include prizes, games, and our own high school basketball players who will serve as instructors and coaches for half-court games.
